Liverpool 2-2 Nottingham Forest: Muñoz rescues point after Forest twice lead at Anfield | OneFootball

Liverpool came from behind twice to draw 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at Anfield, leaving Andoni Iraola still searching for his first win since taking charge of the Reds.

Nottingham Forest forward Dan Ndoye gave the visitors a deserved first-half lead before Liverpool striker Alexander Isak equalised on the hour. Morgan Gibbs-White restored Forest’s advantage from the penalty spot 10 minutes later, but Víctor Muñoz struck in the 82nd minute to earn Liverpool a point.

Forest had the better chances for long spells and finished with 2.30 xG compared to Liverpool’s 1.61. They also extended their unbeaten run at Anfield to three matches, while Liverpool remain without a league win after their opening two games.

As it happened

Forest settled quickly and caused Liverpool problems down the flanks. Ndoye had already gone close with a back-post header before giving the visitors the lead in the 24th minute.

Matz Sels’ long ball was brought under control by Igor Jesus, who found Gibbs-White on the edge of the area. The Forest captain moved it on to Ndoye, and the Swiss forward took a touch before calmly finding the far corner.

Liverpool thought they had responded eight minutes later when Florian Wirtz finished into the bottom corner, but VAR ruled Jeremie Frimpong offside in the build-up. Wirtz then forced Sels into a good save, while Alisson Becker kept Liverpool within one shortly before half-time by tipping Jesus’ effort onto the crossbar.

The hosts improved after the break and drew level on 60 minutes. Wirtz released Cody Gakpo down the left, and his low cross left Isak with a simple close-range finish at the Kop end.

Forest were back in front only 10 minutes later. Substitute Liam Delap caught Liverpool out with a quick throw to Neco Williams, who was brought down by Alisson inside the area. The decision survived a VAR check before Gibbs-White sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.

Liverpool pushed again and found their second equaliser in the 82nd minute. Dominik Szoboszlai picked out Muñoz inside the box, and the Spaniard turned before driving a right-footed finish into the far corner.

Szoboszlai then went close to completing the comeback with a late free-kick, but his effort drifted narrowly wide. Forest held on through five minutes of added time to leave Anfield with a point.
