Liverpool are working on a deal for a player. He's already proving that he's world-class - and simply must be signed.

Liverpool's midfield is essentially broken. Yes, you can get the odd good game out of it, such as against Atlético Madrid, but it really doesn't work very well on the whole.

The Reds struggle to control games, both with and without the ball. It's far too easy to run through them, while Liverpool's lengthy spells of possession are almost always countered by the opposition enjoying long periods with the ball.

That was certainly the case against Fulham on Saturday. Liverpool just didn't have control of the game and the results was a dull 0-0 where either team could have won it. In other words, the opposite of a proper Anfield performance.

Again, you can point to the midfield for the problem. Liverpool do recognise this, to their credit, and have made moves to bring in someone new.

And he's proving himself to be a world-class player.

Lamine Camara is thriving

Liverpool reportedly want to sign Lamine Camara from AS Monaco. The Athletic reports that Alexis Mac Allister was the pick to be sacrificed to make way, with Camara the pick to replace him.

That comes after Ben Jacobs reported that Liverpool made calls to both Monaco and Camara about a move in 2027. That helped put an end to his deal with Chelsea right at the window's close.

Those calls have laid the groundwork, then, and it certainly appears that Camara is available next year. He'd cost around €70m, per Jacobs, and competition for him will likely rise - especially with how he's playing.

The Senegal star was already brilliant last season and looked quite clearly like one of the best defensive midfield players in Europe. He's started this campaign on fire, though.

Camara's defensive numbers are currently off the charts. He's averaging a frankly ridiculous six successful tackles per 90 minutes, and has managed 37 recoveries across his opening four Ligue 1 fixtures. His totals in both stats lead the league right now, while the 22-year-old is also in the 96th percentile for defensive contributions and duels won.

He's doing this with a magnificent 92 per cent pass accuracy, too - world-class numbers for any defensive midfielder. And exactly what Liverpool desperately need right now.

The club is already working on this deal, of course, and while we do expect things to get more complicated through competition for him, it feels as though Liverpool are massive favourites right now. And that should help land them a player who is truly world-class right now.
