One FC Barcelona player who has not had the best of times in recent seasons is Ronald Araujo. The Uruguayan central defender has struggled for confidence and has not played at the level expected of a player with his ability.
There have been talks about Barcelona being willing to sell Araujo, but nothing has developed on that front. According to Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool remain attentive to Araujo’s situation and believe his reduced prominence under Hansi Flick could create an opening.
The Premier League side are considering a move because his salary would not be especially high by English standards. However, so far, Araujo has shown no inclination to leave Barcelona despite his diminishing role at the club.
A possible offer of around €35 million is being floated for the South American. Bayern Munich and Inter Milan have also been mentioned as clubs that have shown interest in Araujo at different points this season. However, none of this seems advanced.
That is the market side of it. The more important part for Barcelona, though, is the player’s stance. If he does not want to leave, there is nothing the club can do. He renewed his contract in January 2025 and is now tied to Barcelona until June 30, 2031.
Araujo has had difficult moments and remains a divisive figure for some supporters, but his commitment has rarely looked like the real issue. The bigger question is whether Flick can use him in roles that bring out his strengths more consistently.
Sometimes, a change of scenery may be needed to bring the best out of a player, and a move away from Barcelona could do Araujo a world of good. We will have to wait and see how things play out on this front in the coming months.
