Liverpool have a lot of faith in one of their new signings. The Reds feel they've got a top talent.
The transfer window has been open for a couple of weeks now but Liverpool haven’t done much. There haven't been any big-name arrivals, nor have they let players go.
It’s essentially the exact opposite of the summer window, then. Liverpool are sticking with what they’ve got - for better or worse.
That’s a controversial decision to say the least. The Reds haven’t been good this season and there’s a sense that more work has to be done if this is to be a truly competitive squad.
Couple that with the injury issues and we do wonder if they’re risking Arne Slot’s job with their lack of action. The pressure is truly on to get this squad working, even with key players missing.
But while Liverpool haven’t moved for senior signings, they have spent a bit of money on elite youngsters. One of those could have a massive future at the club, too.
The Liverpool Echo reports that the club have high hopes for Ifeanyi Ndukwe. Ndukwe is to formally join Liverpool in the summer after he turns 18 but has agreed a deal this month.
Liverpool are spending £2.5m on Ndukwe, buying the teenager from Austria Wien. He'll jump into the Under 21s initially, but the club don't expect him to remain there.
"Anfield insiders believe the giant Ndukwe has the potential to eventually be drafted into the first-team ranks," says the report and while that initially comes across as a bit obvious, it's really not. Modern football sees plenty of young players signed purely for the profit that could be made down the line.
In fact, you could argue that most youngsters are signed with that line of thinking these days. Liverpool have certainly seen things that way, selling the likes of Ben Doak for a lot of money despite never really giving him a first-team chance.
But the Reds seem to view Ndukwe differently. The Austrian is currently destined for the first-team if he continues his development - so this is a name you'll hear plenty about over the coming years.
