Liverpool could finalise “done deal” today before Bradley Barcola transfer

Liverpool could complete the signing of Yankuba Minteh imminently if they choose to meet Brighton’s asking price for the attacker.

Ben Jacobs reports that the Seagulls would be prepared to shake hands on £70m.

However, it’s entirely possible that the Reds opt to test the waters further with a bid around the £65m mark.

Liverpool could pivot from Yankuba Minteh to Ibrahim Mbaye

It seems that Liverpool are still leaving the door open for a late pivot, with Brighton holding out for a sizeable fee.

“With Minteh, they held some talks over the weekend. They’re deciding today; so it could change any minute and very quickly whether they want to make a third bid,” the reporter told TalkSPORT.

“If they go to £70m, it’ll be a done deal, according to Brighton sources. My sense is Liverpool might consider £65m first. That was discussed at the weekend, but I think if Liverpool bid one more time it’ll almost be a final bid, because they’ve got other options [like] Ibrahim Mbaye.

“But PSG want €70m [£59.8m], which is still equivalent to Minteh. So, they’ve got two options now at roughly the same price. But my expectation is that it’s Barcola plus one.”

Of course, with PSG valuing Ibrahim Mbaye – a right-sided winger who currently isn’t injured – at a comparatively lower fee, it does beg the question as to why Liverpool are holding out for Minteh.

Perhaps our recruitment team simply feels that the Gambian – four years his PSG counterpart’s senior and with significant Premier League experience under his belt – represents the safest bet.

Whatever the case, Liverpool need to stop dithering

If Liverpool are prepared to go as far as £65m for Yankuba Minteh, we have to assume that they could also seal a deal relatively imminently for Ibrahim Mbaye.

And if we’re not prepared to pursue talks with the French champions any further, as far as the Senegalese international is concerned, stalling in talks with Brighton for the sake of £5m seems ludicrous. Especially when the player seems especially keen on the move.

We’ve already seen how limited Liverpool’s squad looked against Newcastle, so it’s absolutely paramount that Richard Hughes and Co. nail reinforcements ahead of this Saturday’s hosting of Nottingham Forest.

Just stop dithering, Liverpool and get your bodies in for the manager to work with.
