Real Madrid have their sights on a new defensive acquisition for the summer of 2026, with uncertainties over the continuity of David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger.
William Saliba had been the top objective for the Merengues, but he has now agreed to sign a new contract with Arsenal.
As such, a move is now out of the question, and the focus has shifted to Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate, another player Real Madrid are keeping an eye on.
However, according to Rodra of ESPN, Konate divides opinion within the Real Madrid offices.
Some see the 26-year-old as a market opportunity, with the possibility of securing him on a free transfer, given that his contract at Liverpool expires next June, while bringing proven Premier League experience.

Others are less convinced, with sources noting the consensus around Konate is not as strong as it once was for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who had been viewed as a clear target in a similar contract situation.
At this point, what is clear is that Real Madrid will go after a new defensive signing in the summer, and Konate features on their shortlist of targets.
The 26-year-old, for his part, seems open to the idea of a move, and has turned down renewal offers from Liverpool, with a contract extension at Anfield now looking very difficult.
But, it seems like the French international does not generate total consensus at Real Madrid. So, whether they decide to push for his signing or explore other targets remains to be seen.
