Liverpool drop a bombshell, Star confirms future now in doubt

One Liverpool star has publicly confirmed that his future at the club is in doubt. The Reds dropped a bombshell on him.

Liverpool are currently in the process of figuring out who stays at the club long-term. That's a pressing problem - both Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker are out of contract next year.

In fact, Joe Gomez is, too. The Reds need to lock down players or find their replacements as there could be even more change coming next summer.

But at least there's some certainty to those issues. Van Dijk gets a new contract, or he leaves - there's no middle ground there and no one sits in limbo. The same goes for anyone else approaching the end of their respective contract.

If only every player was afforded that luxury. It seems at least one genuine first-team star is entirely in limbo over his future after Liverpool dropped a proper bombshell on him.

Alexis Mac Allister's future in doubt

Alexis Mac Allister has confirmed that Liverpool decided against giving him a new contract this summer. That's despite offering new deals to both Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai in the last six months.

The trio arrived at Liverpool together, and were each a core part of the Reds' 2025 title-winning side. However, only two of them received rewards for that work and Mac Allister has been notably left out of things.

There have been consistent reports over the last year that Mac Allister was not in contract talks with Liverpool while his teammates were. It's been incredibly conspicuous - and now the player himself has made it known that it's not his choice.

"There was a chance [I could leave] of course," he said, per James Pearce. "I received the news that the club wasn't in a position to offer me a new contract which makes me sad.

"The fans don't need to worry, I will give 100% until last day I'm here."

So when is that last day? Because we get the impression that it might not be too far off if Liverpool are openly not working on a contract for the Argentine. Mac Allister enters the final year of his deal next season, meaning the summer of 2027 is the final time to get a fee for him.

And as things stand, it seems Liverpool will sell. It's the outcome that makes any of this make sense.
