Liverpool eyeing Lucca Brughmans to replace Giorgi Mamardashvili | OneFootball

Liverpool have opened talks with Genk over a move for goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans to replace Giorgi Mamardashvili before the transfer window closes, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

The Reds have started club-to-club talks and are assessing whether to bring the teenager to Anfield now or wait until 2027.

The situation could change quickly if Nottingham Forest follow through with their reported interest in Mamardashvili.

Liverpool had not necessarily expected to revisit their goalkeeping options this summer, but Forest’s pursuit of the Georgia international could force them into action.

Brughmans is an imposing goalkeeper who has already made four league appearances for Genk this season.

The 18-year-old has made 15 senior appearances for the Belgian club overall, keeping six clean sheets.

He has also represented Belgium at youth level, collecting 25 caps.

Liverpool’s priority this summer has been their attacking options, with a deal for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola reportedly agreed.

But if Mamardashvili leaves, another position could suddenly require attention.

Liverpool could be taking a massive risk with Brughmans

Replacing Mamardashvili with an 18-year-old would be a gamble for Liverpool.

However, there is a major difference between an experienced goalkeeper and a teenager who is only beginning to establish himself at senior level.

Alisson’s injury record also makes this a bad idea.

The Brazilian is Liverpool’s undisputed number one when fit, but his fitness problems over recent seasons mean Brughmans could be thrown into Premier League action at any moment.

Liverpool would be asking Brughmans to deputise for one of the best goalkeepers of his generation in high-pressure matches where mistakes can prove costly.

Brughmans has exciting potential, coming from the same academy that produced Thibaut Courtois and Mike Penders.

But selling Mamardashvili and immediately handing the number two role to an inexperienced teenager is risky.
