Liverpool might have gotten the best possible news that they have had all year.

It's been a mighty bleak campaign for the Reds. A campaign that has turned all of us from believers into doubters.

Arne Slot's style of football was so promising at the start of his reign. But it has become drab and unwatchable. The results have been even worse.

Liverpool are simply devoid and lacklustre in all departments and while Slot will have to shoulder a lot of the blame - he is not alone.

The recruitment team are a culprit of the club's poor performances. They didn't spend the money wisely. Not in the short-term anyway.

Liverpool may ultimately feel the benefits of their summer splash last year that cost them £450m. But right now, there are so many mistakes that have costs them which are so easy to pinpoint.

First of all letting go of all the homegrown talent particularly Tyler Morton and Jarell Quansah was absolutely the wrong call given the need for Liverpool to have more depth.

Spending in excess of £200m, almost half of the club's budget on two strikers, especially one in Alexander Isak, who hasn't even been fit, could have been used a lot more wisely.

Victor Osimhen would have cost half the price and he's about as good of a striker as Isak and the same age.

Ultimately, Liverpool's business in the summer cost them. It turned the squad from one of balanced into an imbalanced side and limited Slot's ability.

Now, there is no denying he should be doing better. However, Richard Hughes is an equally big culprit of this season's results as the club's head-coach.
