Brighton have turned down a £50m offer from Liverpool for winger Yankuba Minteh.
According to NY Times, the 22-year-old underwent right leg surgery after a 3-0 friendly win over Roma earlier this month and is expected to miss another eight weeks, and he is keen on a move if a fee is agreed.
Minteh is under contract until 2029 and is among several wide options Liverpool are tracking after Mohamed Salah’s departure. They have also signed Spain international Victor Munoz.
Since arriving from Newcastle for £30m in summer 2024, Minteh has nine goals and eight assists in 66 Premier League games, mainly on the right but also on the left when Kaoru Mitoma was absent.
Liverpool’s move comes as Manchester United renew interest in Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba. Brighton have already seen Danny Welbeck join Chelsea.
Under Fabian Hurzeler, Minteh and the currently injured Mitoma have been the chief threats out wide. Promise David has joined on loan from Union Saint-Gilloise as Welbeck’s replacement, with an obligation to buy.
Brighton also have young wingers, including £21.8m summer signing Zadok Johanna from AIK, though Minteh offers proven Premier League pedigree.
Minteh has been on Liverpool’s shortlist all summer and tormented them in Brighton’s 2-1 win at the Amex in March. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool raise their bid or pivot to other targets, and their interest does not affect talks for PSG’s Bradley Barcola, with valuations still apart.
