In a recent report, Fichajes stated that Liverpool have set their sights on Paris Saint-Germain defender Ilya Zabarnyi. It is believed that the Reds are showing interest in acquiring the services of the Ukrainian centre-back this summer.

Zabarnyi’s Decent Season In Paris

The 23-year-old had a solid campaign at the French club after producing a series of impressive performances at the heart of their defence. He managed to help the Ligue 1 giants win the UEFA Champions League trophy recently. Zabarnyi featured in 37 matches for PSG last season, scoring one goal across all fronts.

The Ukrainian talent is currently one of the most talented centre-backs in European football. Thus, the Reds would do well to lure him away from Paris this off-season.

Zabarnyi’s current contract with PSG will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Liverpool to land him on the cheap later this year.

Should Liverpool Go For Zabarnyi?

Zabarnyi is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the pitch. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and can play his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.89m, the Ukrainian sensation is a strong presence in the air as well. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League from his time at Bournemouth and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Merseyside club if they manage to bring him on board in this transfer window.

We can expect Zabarnyi to add more bite and steel to Liverpool’s backline. He is more than capable of competing for a regular first-team place at Anfield next season.

At 23, Zabarnyi has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for the Reds to pursue this summer. The Ukraine international will also help Liverpool get back to challenging across all competitions in the coming years. Therefore, the Reds should focus on going for a defender of Zabarnyi’s skill set in this summer transfer period as long as they can get him for a fair price.
