One Liverpool hero has been told he's staying after a major transfer failure. It's a bold decision but the correct one.
The transfer window is now open and Liverpool have business to do. There's simply no way around that after the start to the season they've had.
Not only has the team failed to deliver on its promise but injuries mean Arne Slot doesn't even have the squad he thought he'd boast. This is instead a team held together by glue, low on centre-backs and strikers.
Not only that, but Liverpool didn't replace Luis Diaz in the summer and their lack of direct wingers has cost them this season. Slot himself talked about the need for pace up top - signing someone to replace the Colombian would help with that dramatically.
Which is why Liverpool will have gone for Antoine Semenyo. Reports all season linked the Reds with an interest in Bournemouth's star player but it appears he will join Manchester City instead.
With no obvious alternative, that seems to have had an effect on one Liverpool player in particular.
Sport Mediaset in Italy claim Federico Chiesa has been told by Liverpool that he will not move this winter. Now, it’s not particularly clear whether Chiesa is happy or sad about that one.
The Italian has made no secret of his desire to succeed at Liverpool. He decided to stick around in the summer, after all, despite a very difficult debut campaign with the Reds.
Things haven’t exactly been much better this season. Chiesa very rarely starts matches and typically only plays the last 10-20 minutes if he does get on - Slot simply doesn’t fancy him as a regular.
