Liverpool manager Arne Slot issued an injury update on Alisson Becker and Hugo Ekitike after the pair were forced off the pitch against Galatasaray on Tuesday night.
The Reds suffered a shock 1-0 defeat in Istanbul on matchday two of the Champions League, their second successive loss after falling to a late Eddie Nketiah goal against Crystal Palace last Saturday.
Galatasaray held onto a famous victory after Victor Osimhen scored from the penalty spot in the first half. Liverpool were awarded a spot kick of their own late on, but it was overturned following a VAR review.
Their frustrations were compounded by injuries to Alisson and Ekitike. The Brazilian goalkeeper, who was replaced by Giorgi Mamardashvili in the 56th minute, hurt his hamstring after saving a shot from Osimhen.
Slot confirmed that Alisson won’t be available for Saturday’s meeting with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. “It’s never positive if you go off like this. He is definitely not going to play on Sunday,” he said.
Ekitike has not been ruled out, but he will have to be assessed before the manager makes a decision on his involvement this weekend. The striker was replaced by Alexis Mac Allister in the 68th minute.
“He felt something when he had to reach for the ball. After the game, that’s always the difficult thing with these moments.
“Sometimes you feel, it’s not too bad. But when you walk around, it’s something different – or if you have to sprint, and have to take a shot on target.
“He said he couldn’t continue, so we had to take him off. Let’s see how he is for the weekend.”
