Reds are eyeing other targets amid pursuit of PSG star
Liverpool have had a bid rejected by Brighton and Hove Albion for Yankuba Minteh.
The Reds lodged the offer - worth £50million - several days ago, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
The Merseysiders are looking to strengthen their depth in their front three, after the departure of Mohamed Salah on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract.
They have made Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola their primary target, while talks also continue with the Champions League winners over a potential deal for Ibrahim Mbaye, the Senegal winger.
Andoni Iraola is looking short of attacking options on the eve of the new Premier League season, with Cody Gakpo, Victor Munoz and Rio Ngumoha his only senior wide men.
Now, however, it looks as though Liverpool are trying to make progress ahead of the transfer deadline on September 1.
They have turned their attentions to Minteh, the Gambian forward, who played 34 times for Brighton last term, scoring three goals and adding a further four assists.
The season before last, he scored six goals and assisted four times in 32 appearances.
The Reds have been slow in the transfer market this summer, with their only additions being Munoz and Ronald Araujo, while Jeremy Jacquet completed his £60m move from Rennes, which had been agreed back in January.
Iraola’s men face Newcastle United in their opening Premier League fixture, as the former Bournemouth boss takes charge of his first competitive game against Matthias Jaissle’s Magpies, who themselves have had a surprise window, having lost Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon.
