Liverpool's performances this season have been way below the standards expected of them.
Several members of Arne Slot's first-team squad have been a fraction of their former selves with some such as Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo being torn into every week.
Of course, the fact that Slot has changed the way that he wants his team to play hasn't really helped matters much, especially since the players he has at his disposal don't really fit that style of play.
Despite the Reds' shortcomings this term, there are some members of Liverpool's team who have performed well and have been rewarded for doing so.
And now, even though there's still a few months until the transfer window re-opens, decisions are already being made about the future of some Liverpool players.
Although Liverpool have just activated the extension clause in Alisson's contract, some reports have started to emerge about the Brazilian extending his Anfield stay even more.
At the moment, the 33-year-old is the Reds' number one 'keeper and, without him between the sticks, it feels like Slot has a massive void that needs to be filled.
Giorgi Mamardashvili obviously tries his best to fill the gap but when the Georgian is played over Alisson the difference in quality is obvious.
So that's why it's hardly a surprise to see an update from TEAMtalk stating that Liverpool could end up offering Alisson an entirely new contract before his current one expires in June 2027.
"As previously revealed, Liverpool have now activated their option in Alisson’s contract," the online outlet wrote.
"Sources indicate the 33-year-old could even be offered a further extension to prolong his stay at Anfield."
Although Alisson further extending his Liverpool stay would be beneficial for most parties, the one person who'd not be a massive fan of the deal would be Mamardashvili.
The Georgian will have joined the Reds knowing that he was going to be Liverpool's back-up but he probably only expected to be in that role for a couple of years.
However, if Alisson is offered a new deal and chooses to stay on, it's hard to see why Slot or any other manager would drop the Brazilian for Mamardashvili, even though he's in the prime years of his career.
The 33-year-old has won everything possible with the Anfield outfit and, until he exits L4 for good, it's unlikely that he's going to be dropped.
But, if the Reds want to keep Mamardashvili around to eventually be his successor, Slot and co. will need to figure out how to keep both players happy, otherwise, another Caoimhin Kelleher situation could arise.
