Anfield plays host to a charity European clash

Anfield plays host to a mighty charity match tonight, with the star-studded Liverpool Legends hosting Borussia Dortmund on Merseyside. It is a first return to action for the Reds of yore since October, when Ryan Babel was the hero goalscorer in a 1-0 defeat of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but they have their work cut out for them this evening. Dortmund’s old-timers have a certain penchant for victory in these legends’ matches, and beat Real Madrid to win a Legends Cup earlier this year.

And their squad features some markedly familiar names. Mats Hummels was still competing in the Europa League less than a year ago and scored the winner in January’s cup final, while Sokratis is also expected to feature. You cannot sniff at this Liverpool team, though, headlined by Steven Gerrard but also featuring the likes of Pepe Reina, Peter Crouch and Martin Skrtel. There is talent aplenty in the dugout, too, with Sir Kenny Dalglish and Jurgen Klopp leading the side out.
