Liverpool have made another attempt to bring Chelsea defender Malo Gusto to Anfield on loan today, according to transfer reporter Fabrice Hawkins.

Manager Andoni Iraola wants a new right-back and the Reds have had Gusto on their radar for a while.

However, they were unable to reach an agreement with Chelsea for the France international. Liverpool want the 23-year-old on a straight loan, but the Blues only want to sell him.

The Merseyside club do not have the financial room to secure a permanent deal for Gusto having splashed the cash this summer.

They have spent over £200 million on the signings of Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola, while Ronald Araujo has joined on loan from Barcelona.

It is unclear whether Liverpool will attempt to sign another right-back in the coming hours or wait until 2027.

The Reds wanted England international Djed Spence, but he eventually joined Inter Milan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Iraola has started the season with Jeremie Frimpong as his first-choice right-back. He has played in the opening two Premier League games.

Gusto could have been the perfect signing for Liverpool.

The Frenchman made five appearances at the World Cup earlier this summer, producing some impressive performances, and Liverpool could return for him in the future.
