Liverpool have made a bizarre decision in light of Bradley Barcola's big-money agreement. It's one they might regret.

Liverpool finally clinched an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola on Thursday morning. It's a transfer saga that's gone on for months, with the Reds pivoting to the Frenchman after failing to land Yan Diomande.

PSG were never going to make this one easy, knowing full well what they had. Barcola may not have been in their best XI but he was absolutely the best available winger on the transfer market.

That led to an astronomical transfer fee and Liverpool are making the second-biggest deal in their history to land Barcola. It's far, far more than initially thought but the Reds didn't have much of a choice.

Especially as PSG were willing to let this go to the wire. They've barely budged at all in their price estimation and Liverpool finally accepted that they didn't have the bargaining power here.

Yes, they've got the player but they've had to endure an incredible amount of waiting and it's cost them a fortune anyway. But perhaps the truly mad thing is that they're set to do it again.

Journalist Khadim Diakhaté reports that Liverpool want Manu Kone from AS Roma as their new midfielder. It's fully expected that they'll push hard to sign one in the next few days, especially after their midfield struggles against Newcastle United last week.

However, Roma don't want to sell. Kone is a key player for them and there's not much time to sign a replacement.

In other words, this would be a remarkably difficult negotiation and we're not sure why Liverpool would pick that as their next deal. They desperately need someone to come in quickly - Kone is one that would drag on with a real chance of not happening at all.

He's also not such a standout talent that taking the risk is clearly worth it. Kone is certainly a very good player but not one you'd be desperate to sign over other options.

A strange one, then, and potentially a decision Liverpool come to regret.
