Liverpool are on the brink of a goalkeeping crisis and action needs to be taken this summer.

Alisson is injured again, it looks likely he will miss both legs of Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final against PSG and he could be out for longer.

It isn’t the first time the Brazilian shot stopper has missed game time, in fact he has missed more games due to injury than any other Premier League goalkeeper in the last five years.

The responsibility now falls on Giorgi Mamardashvili to step up when Alisson is injured, but the Georgian hasn’t yet shone in a Liverpool shirt.

With injuries a constant worry for Alisson, and rumoured interest in a summer move from clubs abroad, the responsibility on the shoulders of Liverpool’s second goalkeeper only seems to be increasing.

So far Mamardashvili hasn’t really shown that he is the man to fill Alisson’s shoes full time.

The Georgian has made 15 appearances this season, conceding 24 goals and only keeping three clean sheets.

Caoimhin Kelleher set the bar extremely high in his last few seasons at Anfield, and the Irishman is now flying with Brentford, a side that have a real chance to finish above Liverpool in the league this season.

Kelleher deserved a move away to prove himself as a no.1, but the time has come for Liverpool to bring him home.

If Alisson is sold this summer then it should be Kelleher that comes to Merseyside to replace him.

The 27-year-old has proven himself to be one of the divisions best goalkeepers this season, something many Reds were already aware of, and he is a player who already knows the club well.

Valued at €28.4 million (~£24.8m) by FootballTransfers, Kelleher represents a better value target than many of the comparable goalkeepers on the market and would also fulfil a homegrown spot in Liverpool’s squad registration quota.
