Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of players over the last couple of years.

The Anfield outfit have also confirmed plenty of transfers during this time but, it still feels like they could do with improving a few areas among their first-team squad.

With this in mind, many different players have been linked with a switch and, even though nothing is close to being confirmed yet, the fact that the rumour mill is already turning is certainly good news.

Liverpool's fanbase probably already have an idea about which players they want to sign but, as the January transfer window edges closer, new links are going to emerge.

And now, that seems like exactly what's about to happen with another Real Madrid star now being linked with an Anfield switch.

Raul Asencio now has a high chance of exiting Real Madrid

Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo have been two of Liverpool's best signings this season.

The duo were brought in to help shore up the Reds' back line and, they've more than managed to do that.

However, with how long and gruelling seasons are in football these days, it feels like every single team needs at least two players in every position.

And, for a team of Liverpool's stature, they need to have two world-class players, no matter what.

This has led to many top-notch players being linked with a move to L4 and now, thanks to an update from Ekrem Konur, the Reds now seem to have a decent chance of signing Real Madrid's Raul Asencio.

"Real Madrid CB Raúl Asencio received three major offers last summer, including one from Liverpool," they wrote.

"Interest → Chelsea, Liverpool & financially strong Turkish club.

"Presence of Huijsen & Konaté increases exit chances."

One of the main problems that Liverpool faced this summer was the lack of homegrown players that they had among their ranks.

Because of this, Wataru Endo and Federico Chiesa were forced out of Liverpool's Champions League squad.

Obviously, the futures of Endo and Chiesa don't really feel like they lie with Liverpool but, the fact that Conor Bradley and Hugo Ekitike were both included despite being injured was a bit of a shock.

This homegrown problem isn't going to go away either because, without getting rid of non-homegrown players, Iraola is going to find himself facing the same problem.

Asencio is one of Real Madrid's back-up centre-backs at the moment and, since he's only 23 years old, there's plenty of time for him to grow into an even better player.

And, with him wanting to leave and slowly falling further down the pecking order, the Spaniard could certainly be an interesting transfer for Liverpool in the future.
