One Liverpool star is all set to replace his compatriot at Real Madrid. And it's completely deserved.

It's been another summer of change at Liverpool. This time we saw the likes of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson bow out after glorious spells at the club - arguably the greatest we've ever seen in their respective positions.

But they certainly weren't the only exits. Ibrahima Konate was another, winding down his contract to sign for Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The Frenchman joined Liverpool in 2021 as something of a saviour after a terrible campaign for the Reds that saw them drop to zero fit centre-backs. He went on to have a great career for the Reds, too, and was a massive part of the 2024/25 Premier League title.

Liverpool had to replace Konate this summer, though, and they did it in advance. And now that player is replacing him elsewhere, too.

Jeremy Jacquet replaces Ibrahima Konate

The world is raving about Jeremy Jacquet. He's slotted into Liverpool's backline effortlessly and has consistently looked brilliant for the club this season - even if he's only 21.

And now Jacquet has been rewarded with his France debut. That came on Monday evening in a 1-0 win over Belgium. Jacquet played the full 90 minutes and shone brightly, enough so that Zinedine Zidane is reportedly ready to back him further.

L'Equipe reports that Jacquet is set to replace Konate in the pecking order for France. This comes as Zidane prepares for the upcoming European Championships and the suggestion is that the Liverpool man may be in a better place for the position come 2028.

Certainly, that's the trajectory here. Konate hasn't started too well with Real Madrid, while he wasn't at his best last season, either. Jacquet is on the up, Konate is trending down, in other words.

France look ready to back Jacquet, much as Liverpool have been forced to do. And it certainly appears that both will be winners in the long run for doing so.
