Liverpool are preparing to move on a player who was a Team of the Year star not long ago. A bold decision that will have repercussions.

Liverpool appear ready to trigger a major sale in 2027. This comes after another summer of upheaval, where the Reds saw Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate all leave on free transfers.

The summer before? It was Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez from the regular stars. The title-winning team of just two seasons ago is already half-gone.

And there's more to come. Reports indicate that Liverpool are preparing another high-profile exit as they set the stage for Alexis Mac Allister to leave the club.

Where that is to we have no idea. There's certainly been talk about Real Madrid and Manchester City but it remains to be seen if their interest remains in 2027.

But journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Liverpool are looking to replace him. He's explained that the Reds called AS Monaco and Lamine Camara on deadline day, making it clear to them that they'd make a move next year.

They couldn't do it this year, says Jacobs, because 'Alexis Mac Allister is still at the club'. Ans this is simply the latest piece of the puzzle that is Liverpool's midfield.

The Argentine is the only one of the main midfielders who hasn't sorted his contract. Both Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai got big new contracts, while Curtis Jones left the club for Inter.

Mac Allister? Nothing. He hasn't had any talks with Liverpool despite being into the final two years of his deal. Selling him is increasingly likely as his value winds down.

And Liverpool would need to sell someone if they're to sign Camara. The Reds are up against their foreign player limit and an exit must happen in order to sign him. Mac Allister would be the most likely as a foreign midfielder who would otherwise compete with the Senegal star for game time.

It's a bold decision. A massive one, really. Mac Allister was in the PFA Team of the Year the season before last and was Liverpool's star midfielder that year. Now they're looking to move on and invest in a new midfielder - as well as Gravenberch and Szoboszlai.
