Liverpool reach agreement in principle with Dominik Szoboszlai over new contract | OneFootball

Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle with Dominik Szoboszlai over a new contract, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The terms of the new deal have been agreed, but both parties have yet to sign the contract.

Liverpool are keen to extend Szoboszlai’s current deal, which expires in 2028, as they look to prevent another high-profile departure after losing Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate for free over the past 12 months.

The Hungarian was voted Liverpool Player of the Season for 2025/26. He also claimed the club’s Player of the Month award five times.

Used as both a midfielder and a right-back, Szoboszlai featured in 57 games across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and providing a team-high 12 assists.

He scored four direct free-kicks in the Premier League — the most by a Liverpool player in a single season and just one short of the tournament’s record of five.

The Hungary international was also instrumental in Liverpool’s 2024/25 league title triumph, making 29 starts in the competition.

Szoboszlai joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 and has since established himself as a key player for the Merseyside giants.

His versatility, work rate, creativity, and leadership have made him an indispensable figure in the squad.

Szoboszlai is expected to assume an even greater role at Liverpool next season, following the leadership void left by Mohamed Salah’s and Andre Robertson’s exits.

He is one of the candidates for the Reds’ vacant vice-captaincy role alongside goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Szoboszlai is set to travel with the rest of the squad for Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States on Monday.
