Liverpool have completed the signing of Manchester City full-back Risa Shimizu on a season-long loan deal.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Reds this evening.

The 29-year-old started out with Japanese SOMPO WE League club Tokyo Verdy Beleza where she spent more than a decade. In 2022, Shimizu moved to England where she joined West Ham United. The full-back had two successful years in East London and she earned herself a move to Manchester City last summer. It has been a difficult period for the defender in the North West. She sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury weeks after her move.

The Japanese international is now back to full fitness and she will hope to get a run of games during her time with Liverpool.

After joining Liverpool on loan, Shimizu said “I’m excited to join this club and I’m looking forward to being on the pitch for this club as well.

“I know what type of football the coach plays from our time together at City so I thought it was the right fit for me and that’s why I chose this club.”

Shimizu is Liverpool’s fourth signing of Transfer Deadline Day.
