Liverpool's main goal this season will be to make sure that they end up in a Champions League place.

At the moment, they may be unbeaten across all competitions but, there are still a lot of improvements that need to be made.

Obviously, Andoni Iraola still needs to figure out his best starting XI and how to get his players to perform the way that he wants.

So, until that can happen, there are bound to be plenty of changes as the year goes on.

Fans are already wondering what business Liverpool will get up to in January but, for the players already at Anfield, change could already be afoot.

Giorgi Mamardashvili wants to become Liverpool's number one this season

Since Alisson chose to stay with Liverpool this summer, one area that they didn't need to upgrade was their goalkeeper.

The Brazilian and Giorgi Mamardashvili are both solid players with Alisson's performance against Bournemouth proving that he's still one of the world's best 'keepers.

However, since his injury history has been littered with absences, there's always a thought in the back of everyone's heads that Liverpool could be without the 33-year-old for an extended period.

This happened a lot last term with Mamardashvili managing to feature in 20 games for Liverpool.

However, as each game went by, it was clear that the Georgian was not ready to be the Reds' number one.

Despite this, according to Football Insider, he still fancies his chances at becoming the Reds' number one by the end of the current season.

"Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is pushing to become the club's number one goalkeeper this season, sources have told Football Insider," they wrote.

"The Georgian recently impressed during the Reds' Carabao Cup win over Spurs, and is now understood to be hopeful of getting Premier League minutes in the coming months.

"However, it is understood that Andoni Iraola will only open the door for him to start in the league if Alisson picks up an injury at any stage."

When Mamardashvili was brought to Liverpool, fans were already a bit sceptical.

The goalkeeper was brought in to replace Caoimhin Kelleher who had never put a foot wrong when called upon.

And, while Liverpool may have thought that the Georgian was going to be a good successor for the Irishman, he's been far from that.

His distribution and shot-stopping, two of the main things needed to be a 'keeper, have been poor over the last couple of years despite him actually being lauded for his shot-stopping when playing for Valencia.

Indeed, he's still only 25 years old so there is time for him to grow and become an even better player but, at the moment, it feels like there's no way that he'd ever be as good as Alisson.

Even when he was given a decent run of games last term, he failed to impress which proves how poor he actually is.

Here's hoping that Alisson can stay at the top of his game for a little while longer.
