For the first time, the prefecture will let PSG allocate five percent of Parc des Princes to away fans, meaning 2,376 Liverpool supporters for Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at 21:00.

According to L'Équipe, the authorities had until now capped visiting allocations at 2,000, roughly 4.2 percent of capacity, under a precautionary principle. That stance left PSG under pressure from opponents and weakened its position when seeking five percent away allocations in larger grounds. The latest authorisation applies only to this match, and requires a safety net in the away section.

Last season, 2,000 Liverpool supporters were present for the Reds’ 1-0 win on 5 March at the Parc in a last-16 first leg.

Returning to Paris had been complicated and sometimes painful for fans, traumatised by the incidents, chaos and state lies around the 2022 Champions League final at the Stade de France against Real Madrid, which Liverpool lost 0-1.

Although then Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin waited weeks before apologising for blaming English supporters, Liverpool fans were received before that first leg by police prefect Laurent Nunez, who is now Interior Minister.

That night passed calmly, with no exceptional security measures and no antagonism between the two sets of supporters.
