Andoni Iraola‘s first Anfield outing ended in defeat as Liverpool succumbed to back-to-back second-half capitulations in pre-season, losing late on to Monaco.
After surrendering a two-goal lead to lose to Leeds United in the final fixture of their USA tour, the Reds did the same on their return to Merseyside, having looked in total control at the break after goals from Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.
Aleksandr Golovin had halved the deficit just before the interval to get the Ligue 1 side back in the game before Mika Biereth equalised in the 56th minute, with Liverpool evidently beginning to tire.
A flurry of substitutions, including the debut of new signing Victor Munoz, didn’t do much to turn the tide for Liverpool with Monaco looking the more likely to score, and they got their winner in the 88th minute through an unsaveable header from Paris Brunner.
