Liverpool welcome Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven to Anfield on Wednesday night for a crucial Champions League encounter.
The Reds will be desperate to put their domestic struggles behind them and maintain their strong European momentum. While Arne Slot’s side have slipped to 8th in the Premier League, they remain comfortable in the Champions League qualification places. However, they face a PSV side flying high under Peter Bosz, fresh from a league victory and boasting a potent attack.
Arne Slot is navigating a defensive injury crisis on the right flank. The Reds are confirmed to be without long-term absentee Giovanni Leoni, as well as right-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley. Consequently, Dominik Szoboszlai is likely to continue as a makeshift right-back. In addition, Mohamed Salah returns to the lineup, aiming for history, needing two goals to reach 50 in the Champions League. He is set to start alongside Hugo Ekitike and former PSV captain Cody Gakpo.
Peter Bosz’s team suffered no new injuries during their weekend victory. The only confirmed absentees are Ruben van Bommel and Alassane Pléa. Therefore, Guus Til is expected to continue operating as a makeshift No. 9, a role in which he has excelled recently. He will be supported by a dangerous midfield unit including Ismael Saibari and Joey Veerman.
Liverpool’s domestic form has been a major concern, with recent defeats seeing them slip down the table. However, Anfield remains a fortress on European nights. The Reds have won their last 13 home group/league phase games in the Champions League. Moreover, they have collected nine points from their opening four matches in this competition.
PSV are in superb form domestically, sitting top of the Eredivisie. Their fluid attacking system has proven difficult to stop, with goals coming from all areas of the pitch. Furthermore, they arrive at Anfield unbeaten in their last three European away matches, making them a dangerous opponent.
Liverpool predicted XI: Alisson; Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Jones, Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo
PSV Eindhoven predicted XI: Kovar; Dest, Gasiorowski, Schouten, Salah-Eddine; Junior, Veerman; Man, Saibari, Perisic; Til
