It's now looking inevitable for Liverpool to agree the most genius transfer possible this summer.
The Reds have earned a reputation as masters of the transfer window, not because they spend the most money, but because they spend it smarter than almost anyone else.
Their recruitment strategy has been one of the best in the league over the last decade or so.
Rather than chasing established superstars at inflated fees, Liverpool consistently target players on the verge of breaking out - or the best players like Florian Wirtz and Alexaner Isak - knowing they are going to be worth every penny.
This approach has led to the arrival of talents who develop into world-class performers at Anfield, often outperforming more expensive signings made by rival clubs look at Diogo Jota over Timo Werner, or Mo Salah over Julian Brandt.
The club’s data-driven model, combined with traditional scouting, allows them to assess not just current ability but future growth, personality, and tactical fit.
Whether it's Michael Edwards or Richard Hughes at the helm, Liverpool consistently get things right and know when to strike when the iron it hot.
They set out specific targets and avoid panic buys to maintain a sustainable financial model. When they do spend big, it is usually on players they are convinced will deliver immediate and long-term value.
Timing is another key strength. Liverpool often strike just before a player’s value skyrockets, securing deals that later look like bargains. This ability to anticipate the market gives them a competitive edge.
And it's what they likely will be setting out to do this summer in order to buy a player whose stock may be down but who has incredible potential in what will be a genius move.
Let's think about what Liverpool are lacking right now - speed and one vs one ability.
Who is one of the best players in the Premier League in both areas?
Yankuba Minteh.
He’s been very under-used this season. Apart from last week, he had not started a Premier League game since December for Brighton falling out of favour.
However, the 21-year-old has performed consistently well and on his return to the starting line-up he scored straight away.
Minteh's underlying numbers are brilliant. He's second in the Premier League for carries into the box (61) and fifth for successful dribbles (2.80 per 90)
Meanwhile, he is 10th among wingers for big chances created (7).
On top of that, Minteh is a really hard-worker and an intense pressing machine who has won possession 3.83 times per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season - more than any Liverpool attacker.
So, we know Liverpool need a player like him and we know he has enormous potential. We know he is on the club's radar. Right now, he's not starting games regularly for Brighton, which means this is the time for Liverpool to strike and get him for a much cheaper price than they might have been able to get had he been playing regularly.
This is a genius move that has Liverpool written all over it. And it's one that is now looking certain to happen this summer.
