Liverpool will be left with no choice but to sack Arne Slot if the players do not start responding, according to the Independent journalist Miguel Delaney.

He was referencing someone with knowledge of the Liverpool hierarchy in his ‘Inside Football’ bi-weekly newsletter today.

The Anfield club have lost nine of their last 12 games across all competitions and pressure is beginning to mount on their manager.

Liverpool lost 4-1 to PSV Eindhoven at home on Wednesday in the Champions League following a 3-0 Premier League defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest at home last Saturday.

Slot is struggling to get a response out of his players as it does not appear they are playing for him, which could prove costly if the results do not change.

“And, as one figure with knowledge of the Liverpool hierarchy said, “if the players still aren’t responding, there is no other choice”,” wrote Delaney in his newsletter.

The Reds are back in action on Sunday when they visit the London Stadium to take on West Ham United before hosting Sunderland next Wednesday.

Liverpool would have been favourites to win the two games at the beginning of the season but they have become unpredictable in recent weeks, and most clubs will fancy their chances against them at the moment.

Winning the Premier League title last term has helped Slot greatly as he would likely have been sacked by now had he finished his debut campaign without a major trophy.

Nevertheless, Liverpool need to start winning games regularly if the Dutchman wants to hold on to his job going forward, and December could be crucial to his chances of staying in charge for much longer.

Slot hit the ground running as the Reds boss after succeeding Jurgen Klopp ahead of last season, but the onus is now on him to prove his mettle and worth following the unexpected dismal run of form in recent weeks.
