Liverpool have been reeling over the last few days due to the fallout of Mo Salah’s stunning interview.

On Saturday - following the club’s 3-3 draw against Leeds at Elland Road - the Egyptian King ripped into Arne Slot after three consecutive games on the bench.

The upshot of that interview was that the 33-year-old was dropped from the squad to face Inter in the Champions League on Wednesday. Salah could well be edging closer to the Anfield exit and there is major interest in him once again from Saudi Arabia.

There remains the possibility that Salah has ALREADY played his final game for Liverpool - which would represent a sad and bitter end to one of the greatest Reds’ careers of modern times.

Salah's immediate Liverpool future in danger

He flies to the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt next week and Salah could well find himself working under new employers by the time the Pharaohs campaign concludes in January.

Talk would then turn towards which players might come into Anfield to replace Salah - and we’ve already seen the likes of Michael Olise and Antoine Semenyo linked.

But Salah may well miss out this weekend in the Premier League versus Brighton and there are several games to cover before the January window opens.

Frimpong to return following injury

That means a player from within the ranks is going to need to step up. Attacking options are at a premium right now - with Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo also absent - and Arne Slot has taken to using Dominik Szoboszlai in the right-sided midfield position.

If the Dutchman decides to end that arrangement this weekend then it paves the way for a return to action for Jeremie Frimpong.

Earmarked as a potential Trent Alexander-Arnold replacement when he signed from Bayer Leverkusen over the summer, the £29.5m man is actually more comfortable on the right side of midfield or even as a winger.

With Joe Gomez holding his own at right-back and Conor Bradley suspended, the 25-year-old may well be used in a more advanced position following his recovery from injury.

Time for Frimpong to step up

Frimpong hasn’t played since the game against Eintracht Frankfurt in October - with Arne Slot stating that his injury timeline looked similar to Bradley’s.

The Northern Ireland captain returned to the fray at Elland Road - suggesting that Frimpong won’t be far behind.

Liverpool need to see the best of Frimpong soon - starting this weekend if he is fit - as he will be expected to showcase his credentials as a Salah stand-in while the two-time African footballer of the year is at Afcon.
