Liverpool cannot afford to pass up the steal Real Madrid is reportedly presenting them. They'd be mad to ignore it.
It's clear to all that Liverpool's rebuild has not gone to plan. They spent an incredible amount over the summer to try and improve on a title-winning team.
Instead, the team looks far worse. The only silver lining is that there are still areas to invest in, given the Reds didn't sign a winger, missed out on the centre-back they wanted, and steered clear of spending in midfield.
So there are still relatively simple changes that they can make in order to improve. One of those is certainly changing their midfield options, where things have become far too soft.
Liverpool simply don't win midfield battles this season - their first goal conceded against Manchester City saw six challenges missed as Pep Guardiola's team marched up the pitch. The obvious fix there is a more defensive midfielder.
And the ideal one may be up for sale.
Defensa Central suggests that Eduardo Camavinga could be sold if Real Madrid receive an offer of around €60m. It’s an incredible opportunity for Liverpool to sign a player they’ve wanted for years.
The Reds were right there in the mix for Camavinga when he was at Rennes, though he ultimately chose Real Madrid. Well, they don’t appear to see the value in him anymore - but Liverpool would.
Remarkably few midfielders win tackles at the rate Camavinga does. Let alone while also maintaining a 90 per cent pass completion rate.
He’s the ideal, modern defensive midfielder given he also boasts the engine to press properly. We think he’s exactly what Liverpool have been missing in the middle - someone who can give them extra bite but retain their ability to keep the ball.
Let’s not forget either that Camavinga only just turned 23 this month. He’s still an incredibly young talent and one who just needs more opportunities to show how good he is.
And, importantly, the right club. Liverpool can give him that and in turn, sign a player who could give the defensive base they need to get more out of their attacking players.
We’d absolutely love to see it happen and if he’s truly available for €60m, Liverpool would be mad to pass it up.
