Liverpool would be open to buying Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers if the price was right, according to Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele.

Rogers ended last season with 14 goals and 15 assists in 54 games and will emerge as a target for bigger clubs if he continues in the same vein.

Liverpool are always alert to the top players, and they could look to swoop for the Villa forward next summer if he replicates his form.

“A good source mentioned Morgan Rogers to me in June as a potential target, but I was told ‘no’ by top Liverpool sources at the time,” Steele wrote.

“Does that mean it is completely off the cards? No, and they would be open to a market opportunity if the price was right. But they are not directly planning for that at this stage.”

Villa want to hand Rogers a new contract even though he still has five years left on his current deal after signing a six-year extension in November 2024.

Morgan is one of the best and most important players, with John McGinn now a huge admirer having not been initially impressed when he was signed 20 months ago.

Villa will be desperate to hold on to the England international attacker, but they may need to qualify for the Champions League next term and win a major silverware to have a chance.

Every player wants to play for the biggest teams on the biggest stages, and Rogers could be open to joining Liverpool if they come calling.

The Reds are preparing for life without the ageing Mohamed Salah, and he could be on their long list of potential targets being lined up to replace him.
