Liverpool's best player gives Arne Slot an ALMIGHTY selection headache

Liverpool have given Arne Slot a major selection headache prior to Leeds' visit to Anfield.

The Reds have recorded four consecutive wins across all competitions and the current unbeaten streaks extends to seven games. This fine run of form has resulted in the team rising up the table.

With close rivals Chelsea drawing to Bournemouth on Tuesday, the team can go five points clear of the Blues with a win, consolidating Liverpool's hopes of finishing the season in the top four places.

However, the performances that have delivered such positive results haven't been the greatest and it's essential that Slot gets the balance right to ensure the team doesn't fall back into it's old ways.

Against Wolves, the Reds were unable to select Dominik Szoboszlai. He now has to be reintroduced. Who gets pulled from the winning team in order to facilitate the Hungarian is a far from easy decision.

Liverpool's big conundrum

Since the team has now finally got a structure, it's essential that we don't disrupt the flow too much.

Alexander Isak's broken leg means that Hugo Ekitike is an automatic pick as the striker, someone will need to come in at right-wing because Mohamed Salah is at AFCON, and Cody Gakpo's recovery from injury can be prolonged now that Florian Wirtz has found his rhythm over on the left-wing.

Outside of the forwards, Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch appear to be inseparable in the midfield double-pivot, and both of Liverpool's full-backs on the right side are available, which makes it particularly unlikely that Szoboszlai will be given a role to play in the defence. So where does he go?

It's entirely plausible that Federico Chiesa exits the side, given his performance against Wolves felt like quite a struggle - brought on presumably because he's played such little football so far this season. Last weekend was only his third start of the season and he really needs some momentum.

As such, the right-wing spot remains a distinct possibility. But we could see Szoboszlai come back into midfield, with Alexis Mac Allister making way. The Argentine has yet to really set the Premier League alight with his talents this season, unlike in other years gone by. The 27-year-old is missing something in his game, and it's really hard to work out why things aren't happening for him.

Outside of Szoboszlai coming back from his yellow card suspension, it's plausible that Cody Gakpo might take back his left-wing spot, with Wirtz moving across to the right instead of Chiesa playing.

Regardless of who comes in and goes, Liverpool's entire squad will need to be firing if we're to beat Leeds, not least because they scored three against the Reds at Elland Road a few weeks ago, but also because Wolves didn't have to create very much for the anxious feelings to return to Anfield.
