This summer, Trent Alexander-Arnold made the move to Real Madrid from Liverpool. The England international had been set to join on a free transfer before Los Blancos then paid a nominal fee to secure the defender’s services in time for the FIFA Club World Cup.
There are fears that Ibrahima Konaté (26) may befall a similar fate. The Frenchman’s deal at Liverpool expires at the end of the season, and whilst there are talks over a contract extension, there is not yet an agreement in place.
From January, Konaté will therefore be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with another club. Amid the uncertainty surrounding the Frenchman’s future at Anfield and the interest from Real Madrid, he was asked about a potential move to the Bernabeu on Téléfoot on Sunday.
Asked if he could speak Spanish, he responded that he couldn’t. Konaté was then asked if his international teammate, Kylian Mbappé, was putting pressure on the defender to join him at the Spanish giants. “He calls me every two hours,” joked the Liverpool centre-back, before rowing back with a “No, no, no.”
