Liverpool have announced that Marie Höbinger will undergo surgery after suffering an ACL injury.

The Austrian picked up the injury in the first half of the Reds' 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at Anfield, with Kirsty MacClean taking her place.

"Marie’s scan results confirmed an injury to her anterior cruciate ligament, and she will now begin a period of rehabilitation with the support of everyone at the club," said Amelia Woodhouse, the Liverpool women's team club doctor.

"She will also have a surgical review in the coming days."

Höbinger's lengthy lay-off is a blow to new manager Gareth Taylor with Liverpool having lost all five league games in the WSL so far this season.

The 24-year-old has been a key player for Liverpool since joining from Turbine Potsdam in the summer of 2023, having scored nine and assisted 11 in 59 games for the club.
