Liverpool's summer transfer window was filled with rumours.

Almost every single position among the Reds' ranks was scrutinised with two or three players from the same position all being linked with a switch.

Admittedly, it's clear that, even after the four new players that they brought through the Anfield doors, change is still needed.

So, that's why most Liverpool fans are getting rather excited about the upcoming January transfer window.

Of course, it's still quite a way away yet but, since Liverpool's squad depth is fairly poor, new players are needed which is why it's good for fans to find out now whether or not deals for certain players can be agreed.

Bournemouth are not willing to negotiate the exits of Alex Scott, Eli Junior Kroupi or Rayan

One group of players that Liverpool have constantly been linked to is Bournemouth.

Obviously, with Andoni Iraola coming from the Vitality, it was clear that links with his former players were going to emerge.

And, the fact that each of Bournemouth's best players are positions that Liverpool need to improve on made those links make even more sense.

Eli Junior Kroupi, Alex Scott and Rayan would all be welcome additions for the Reds but, since Bournemouth have no need or desire to sell them due to their Europa League run, it's going to be hard to convince the Cherries to let them go.

That is, especially if this fresh update from BBC Sport is to be believed.

"Bournemouth are not willing to entertain offers for midfielder Alex Scott during the January transfer window," they wrote.

"The 23-year-old made his senior England debut in Wednesday's 2-0 Nations League win away to Czechia but will be into the final 18 months of his contract come January.

"The Cherries have had two contract renewal talks rejected before a summer window in which Scott pushed to leave the Vitality Stadium.

"However, they remain steadfast that they have warned interested clubs that they will not welcome any contact over a move until their league objectives have either been achieved or are no longer attainable.

"Similarly, Bournemouth would not entertain offers for other key players, including striker Eli Junior Kroupi, who remains sidelined through injury, and winger Rayan.

Liverpool will clearly have to turn their attention elsewhere

Even though Scott, Rayan and Kroupi would all be incredible signings for Liverpool, it's clear that, if the Reds want to improve their ranks this season, they're going to have to look elsewhere.

Of course, many other players have already been linked with the Reds such as Adam Wharton and Kevin Schade but, since the club spent over £150 million on new signings in the summer, their war chest is a tad low.

Obviously, since they're one of the biggest clubs in the world, they can spend more than a lot of other teams in the Premier League but, that doesn't mean that they should just go and sign anyone.

Every single signing that Liverpool make needs to count and, if they do end up wanting to make sales, they need to bring in players who are better or have high potential to replace them.

If they don't manage this, things could go south rather quickly and they could end up finishing fifth again, which, after last season, the club have already proven that finishing that low in the table isn't good enough.

Here's hoping that everything works out and that Liverpool manage to get their hands on a new player or two in January.
