The highly-rated young defender has caught the eye during his loan spell with Scottish League One side Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

With his contract at Celtic Park set to run out at the end of the season, the 20-year-old was free to negotiate a permanent move, prompting Livingston boss David Martindale to move quickly and agree a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Despite completing the transfer, Robertson will remain in the Highlands for the remainder of the campaign to continue gaining valuable first-team experience.

The West Lothian club confirmed the deal in an official announcement, stating: “We are delighted to announce the signing of Mitchell Robertson, who joins us from Scottish Premiership Champions Celtic, on a 3-and-a-half-year deal.”

“The centre-back, who has spent the first half of the season on loan at League One outfit Inverness Caledonian Thistle, joins with a plethora of experience in lower league football. He was appointed captain of the Celtic B team, being a mainstay in the squad throughout the previous three Lowland League campaigns, as well as competing in the UEFA Youth League.”

“This season, Mitchell has made ten appearances in the Highlands, scoring and assisting twice each as he helped Caley in their promotion fight.”

“Capped at U18 level, the 20-year-old is versatile and can also play at left-back. To continue his development, Robertson will continue his loan spell at Inverness Caledonian Thistle until the end of the season.”

Celtic B also tweeted the news on ‘X’ adding: “We can confirm Mitchell Robertson has joined Livingston on a permanent deal. Best of luck for the future, Mitchell.”

Robertson’s Inverness currently sit top of the Scottish League One with 37 points despite having a five-point deduction. Given the way Livingston are going, he may well face his current team in the Championship next season.
