Some remarks by the agent of Stanislav Lobotka threw fuel on the fire in the ongoing crisis at Napoli. While he rushed to dismiss them, the future of the midfielder is slightly uncertain.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the cornerstone was open to departing last summer already. The Partenopei set a hefty price tag, €35/40M. Some top teams showed interest, for instance, Barcelona or Manchester United, but none came close to those numbers.
Lobotka has spent five and a half seasons at Napoli, totaling 209 appearances. The Azzurri would fill the void with a youngster if he departed.
His agent, Branislav Jarusek, weighed in on the VAR podcast from Slovakia in late October (via Calciomercato).
“I don’t understand why he has to play so much. He should rest more. If he won his third Scudetto this year, it’d be easier for him to leave. It’s true that he improved his contract and that he’s comfortable at Naples and could stay for many years, but he’s 30. It’s unrealistic for him to keep up from a physical standpoint. Antonio Conte’s requests are brutally demanding. Every training session is like a game. It would make sense for him to transfer next summer, but it’ll depend on the fee. He’s happy, but if the coach stayed, I think he could pressure me to flee.”
The representative tried to clear the air on Radio CRC (via Virgilio).
“My sentences were taken out of context. I’m happy that he’s working under an exacting gaffer, because he’s a winner. I was joking when I said that Lobotka could be tired and ask to exit Napoli. He has a father-son relationship with Conte, which won’t change.”
