London City Lionesses struck twice in the space of 10 first-half minutes at Ewood Park, as they went on to defeat Blackburn in Rovers’ opening game and add three points to the one gained last week.
They took the lead in the 27th minute when Charlène Meyong threaded the ball through to Lucy Fitzgerald who beat goalkeeper Alex Brooks via the post.
Then after Kosovare Asllani’s effort hit the crossbar, Chantelle Boye Hlorkah buried the rebound.
Rovers replied before the hour mark, substitute Farah Crompton marking her return from an ACL injury by turning in Hannah Luke’s cross.
Rianna Dean made a 69th-minute breakthrough for Southampton at Sunderland, assisted by Rachel Rowe.
With six minutes of the 90 left, the same pair combined again as Dean doubled the Saints advantage.
Molly Pike fired in a third for the visitors in stoppage time, as Remi Allen’s side begin with four points from two games, while the Black Cats have suffered two clear defeats.
Bristol City drew for the second successive game and Birmingham City moved onto four points, following the goalless draw at Ashton Gate.
Robins’ goalkeeper Fran Bentley made a number of saves including two from Tegan McGovern, at the other end Lucy Thomas kept out a close-ranger header from Jamie-Lee Napier.
