London City Lionesses announced the sacking of manager Jocelyn Prêcheur on Sunday, midway through the club's first-ever WSL campaign.
The decision comes during the club's winter break with the London club not back in action until January 11th when they take on struggling Liverpool before an FA Cup clash with Sunderland and a big game against top-of-the-league Manchester City.
However, Michele Kang's club will be led by a new manager for 2026 after the sacking of former Paris Saint-Germain coach Prêcheur.
After helping the club to promotion to the top flight last year, Prêcheur put the club up to sixth in the WSL with five wins and six defeats.
On the surface, that seems like a fair result with London City Lionesses always unlikely to overtake the top four of Chelsea, Arsenal, and two Manchester sides this season with Tottenham Hotspur taking up the space they would likely be aiming for.
Perhaps the League Cup campaign was more costly for Prêcheur with the team unable to exit a group that included Leicester City and WSL2 sides Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace – the latter progressing to the quarter finals before being defeated by Arsenal on Sunday.
In an official statement on the sacking of Prêcheur, London City Lionesses said: "Following careful consideration, the Club believes that now is the right time to begin a new cycle and pursue a different strategic direction for the next phase of its development."
Reports suggest that the club already have a new manager lined up but they will be under big pressure to quickly lift the club further up the table and disrupt the top four immediately.
