AC Milan are in advanced negotiations with Mike Maignan over a contract renewal and according to the latest reports, there is optimism. Indeed, the goalkeeper could become one of the highest-paid players in the squad.

Maignan’s current contract will expire in 2026 and he earns €2.8m per year as things stand, which is quite low compared to the other stars of the team. With these two factors in mind, negotiations are underway for a contract renewal and there is reportedly optimism.

As added by Daniele Longo this morning, Milan could reach an agreement with Maignan at €6m per year including bonuses. This would make him one of the highest-paid players in the squad, though Rafael Leao would still be first with €5m plus bonuses (up to around €7m).

Many would consider Maignan to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world and he has certainly come up big for Milan since he joined. In other words, the pay rise is long overdue and extending the contract would also be protecting the investment.

Hopefully, an agreement will also be found with Theo Hernandez down the line as his contract also expires in 2026. Being strong-armed by clubs next summer would be far from ideal after all.
