Lorenzo Lucca’s Nottingham Forest stint has been described as a nightmare, and with minutes scarce the prospect of a permanent deal appears remote. Chris Wood’s return from a long lay-off has further reduced the Italian’s chances.

Earlier figures of €40 million (£35m) were mooted for a permanent move. According to Area Napoli, his valuation has fallen to €20-18m (£17.5-15.5m) and Napoli intend to sell this summer, though not to Forest.

The Napoli forward joined for the second half of the season, making seven appearances, three starts, and scoring once. He has not played since starting the 2-1 Europa League win over Midtjylland last month, and was omitted from Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at the City Ground.

Head coach Vitor Pereira said his Villa squad was picked for balance across positions, with Igor Jesus starting, Wood in reserve and options required in wide and midfield areas, so Lucca and Taiwo Awoniyi missed out.

Pereira has previously indicated that game time must be earned in training. Lucca has yet to replicate the 14 goals he scored for Udinese in 2024/25, and there have been suggestions of an ankle issue.
