Nottingham Forest will not take up their option to buy Lorenzo Lucca, with the striker favouring a return to Italy after a flat loan.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Lucca will return to Napoli after his City Ground spell, with his priority to remain in Serie A. He is said to have found settling difficult amid a crowded squad.

Napoli paid Udinese just under €40 million last summer, then sent the 25-year-old to Forest in January. He has featured eight times in all competitions.

Area Napoli reports that his valuation has fallen to €20-18m (£17.5-15.5m), and that Napoli intend to sell him, not to Forest.

Romano added that Napoli must now assess any exit, including the formula and costs. Lucca’s Nottingham stint has been widely labelled a nightmare after he failed to replicate his 2024/25 Udinese haul of 14 goals.
