It has been a positive start to life in League One for Wednesday, and they picked up their third win in four games as they beat Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 at Adams Park on Tuesday night, but the victory came at a cost for Henrik Pedersen's side.

Adams Park has not been a happy hunting ground for Wednesday over the years, and it looked as though a tough evening would be ahead when Cauley Woodrow put Wycombe ahead in the sixth minute, but Barry equalised just five minutes later before Jamal Lowe's penalty deep into first half stoppage time sealed all three points for the visitors.

Barry's goal continued his strong start to life at Hillsborough following his summer move from Aston Villa, with the 23-year-old scoring a brace and providing an assist in the 7-2 demolition of Bromley in the previous game.

However, Barry was forced off shortly after slotting home the leveller against the Chairboys, with Liverpool loanee Kieran Morrison replacing him in the 16th minute, and his serious-looking injury caused plenty of concern among the travelling Owls contingent.

It seems Wednesday owner David Storch shared those fears over the fitness of one of his marquee signings, with the American revealing on social media after the game that he was "praying" for Barry.

The Owls confirmed on Thursday morning that Barry is facing up to three months on the sidelines with an ankle ligament injury, and Pedersen admitted that it is a "big, big blow" and "sad for him and sad for the team" having been "amazing" since his arrival.

Barry is the second of Wednesday's summer signings to suffer a serious injury in the early weeks of the season after midfielder Tyler Onyango was ruled out for the rest of the campaign after suffering an ACL injury on his debut in the opening day victory at Leyton Orient.

However, while Onyango did not have a chance to show what he is capable of in an Owls shirt, Barry has already proven his importance to the team with four goal contributions and his first six appearances, making his setback particularly frustrating.

Barry has already become a firm favourite among Wednesday supporters, and he sent a message to the Hillsborough faithful after news of his lengthy injury lay-off was announced.

"Absolutely gutted, but I'll do everything I can to get back as soon as possible, while supporting the lads from the sidelines. Thank you to everyone for all the messages. It means a lot to me," Barry wrote on his Instagram story.

Given his prolific League One record from his loan spells at Stockport County, many Wednesday supporters viewed Barry as the club's standout summer signing, and he has certainly made a big impact at Hillsborough.

Barry has been crucial to the Owls' strong start to the season and their main creative spark, so to lose him for around three months is a major blow for the South Yorkshire outfit, and there is no doubt he will be missed.

However, Wednesday are believed to have beaten the deadline to sign Wrexham forward Davis Keillor-Dunn, who scored 35 goals and provided six assists in 78 appearances for Barnsley in League One prior to his move to Wales, so while he will not be a like-for-like replacement for Barry, he will help to provide an attacking threat during his absence.
