Louie Barry has opened up on the main difference he has experienced since his move to Sheffield Wednesday after a number of loan spells.

It has been a busy start to the summer for Sheffield Wednesday under new owner David Storch.

Storch's Arise Capital Partners consortium completed their takeover of Wednesday in May, bringing to an end a turbulent period for the club that saw them suffer relegation from the Championship and spend over six months in administration following former owner Dejphon Chansiri's exit.

The Owls have wasted no time in getting to work on rebuilding their squad this summer, with nine new additions arriving at Hillsborough so far in Joe Lumley, Ricardo Santos, Sil Swinkels, Billy Mitchell, Callum Slattery, Barry Bannan, Jordi Liongola, Louie Barry and Harry Gray.

After defender Swinkels made the move from Aston Villa earlier in the summer, forward Barry became the second player to swap the Midlands for South Yorkshire as he signed a four-year contract with Wednesday, with the option to extend for a further year.

Barry had disappointing loans with the likes of Ipswich Town, Hull City and Sheffield United during his time at Villa Park, but he made a name for himself during three spells with Stockport County, where he worked with the Owls' new sporting director Simon Wilson.

The 23-year-old's most recent stint at Edgeley Park came in the second half of last season, where he scored four goals in 10 appearances to help the Hatters to a third-place finish in League One, but they were beaten by Bolton Wanderers in the play-off final at Wembley.

Speaking during the club's pre-season trip to Hungary, Barry opened up on the early stages of his time at Wednesday, and he admitted that it has been unusual settling into a permanent home after a number of loan spells in recent years.

"The first couple of weeks have been really, really enjoyable," Barry told The Star.

"It was quite a lot thing at the start when we had to go through things.

"I met the team at St George's Park, so the first couple of days, we were still organising the deal and whatnot, so I was kind of waiting to get fully involved in training, but since then it's been really good.

"It's very rare that you join a club and go straight in non-stop every day with them, so that's been quite good to bond with the team because obviously I've been with them every day throughout the whole day, rather than just training and going home.

"It's been really good, and obviously being at a permanent home now is a bit different.

"Every time I've been at a team, I've been with them for five or six months, but now these are the team-mates that I'm going to have for years to come hopefully.

"It's a strange one, it's something I have to change my perspective on, but in a good way though."

Barry has enjoyed three outstanding loan spells at Stockport, scoring a combined total of 29 goals in 56 appearances for the Hatters, but he is yet to prove himself away from Edgeley Park.

While Barry's stints in the Championship were severely disrupted by injury, he failed to register a single goal contribution for either Hull City or Sheffield United, so Wednesday have taken a gamble in signing him on a permanent basis rather than on loan.

There may be some question marks over whether Barry can deliver above League One level, but if he can replicate his Stockport form, there is no doubt that he could be one of the standout performers in the third tier next season, which would give the Owls a big promotion advantage.
