Lucas Bergvall has committed his long-term future to Tottenham by signing a new contract, ending uncertainty over his next steps.
According to Nottingham Post, the 20-year-old Swedish midfielder attracted bids from Nottingham Forest and Newcastle this summer after frustration over limited minutes in his preferred role during a difficult 2025-26 campaign.
Used frequently by Roberto De Zerbi in pre-season, Bergvall started the Premier League opener at Brentford and has now agreed fresh terms to stay in north London. He has made 80 appearances since arriving from Djurgarden in 2024.
Bergvall said the club are building something special and that he is pleased to extend his deal. He aims to deliver more, targeting performances, goals and assists, and is focused on daily improvement while looking forward to what he expects to be a really good season.
De Zerbi praised his hunger to learn and improve, and his readiness to take responsibility in big moments. He stressed development takes time and believes the midfielder’s best football lies ahead, with Spurs intent on providing the platform to reach it.
Sporting director Johan Lange described Bergvall as an outstanding talent with vast potential and welcomed his commitment. He added that the new contract reflects the club’s faith in him and the role envisaged for both the present and the future.
