Lucas Leiva invests in French club Le Mans alongside Felipe Massa and Djokovic | OneFootball

Former Grêmio midfielder Lucas Leiva has become an investor in Le Mans, now in France’s top flight, joining a group that includes Felipe Massa and Djokovic.

The club said in a statement that Leiva will work on recruitment and player development, arriving as a new backer alongside Idrissa Gana Gueye, the Senegalese midfielder who plays for Al-Diriyah in Saudi Arabia.

Other shareholders include Kevin Magnussen, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and businessman Georgios Frangulis.

Football has shaped his life and he aims to apply his experience to ambitious, future-focused projects, expressing belief in Le Mans’ history, identity and long-term, sustainable potential.

Le Mans were acquired last year by OutField, an investment fund from Brazil that also helps manage Coritiba’s SAF.

Promoted to the French first division last year, the club sit ninth in the table.

Leiva, 39, retired in 2022 after a heart condition ended his final spell at Grêmio. He came through the club and later played for Liverpool and Lazio before returning to Brazil.
