Lucas Veríssimo has been added to the CBF’s BID, yet there is no timetable for his arrival at Santos. He remains in Qatar, where war has shut airports and other Middle East airspace, and the country has been affected by a conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
According to Diario Do Peixe, the centre-back had been playing for Al-Duhail and his camp are considering an overland move to a nearby location before seeking a flight. They are proceeding with caution given the risks.
He is with his wife, his son and his young daughter. The family are packing but still have no fixed itinerary.
He returns for a second spell at Santos, with the situation in Qatar among the reasons for heading back to Brazil. He has signed a contract through 2028.
Although registered, he remains a doubt for the match against Mirassol on Tuesday 10 at 21h30min at Maião in the fifth round of the Brasileiro.
Santos have committed 4 million euros plus bonuses that could take the fee to 5 million, payable to the Qatari club. The board moved late to complete the deal before the window closed. The first instalment is due in December this year, with four annual payments.
A Santos academy graduate, Veríssimo established himself before spells with Benfica in Portugal, Corinthians and Al-Duhail, and a loan at Al-Wakrah. For Santos he has 7 goals in 190 games, winning the Copinha in 2013 and the Paulista in 2016, and finishing Libertadores runners-up in 2021.
