Santos in negotiations to sign Lucas Veríssimo from Al-Duhail | OneFootball

Santos have moved forward in talks to sign academy graduate and centre-back Lucas Veríssimo from Al-Duhail. According to Globo.com, the Brazilian club are negotiating a permanent transfer.

After a loan approach was rejected, Santos submitted an offer of around 4 million dollars, about R$ 20 million, for 70% of his economic rights.

Santos are optimistic of securing his release amid heightened tension in the region. Since the weekend, attacks by the United States, Israel and Iran have left the country on alert. Football was suspended in Qatar after bombings of a US military base.

The board is racing to finalise the deal by Tuesday, when the Brazilian transfer window for players arriving from overseas closes.

Teams can still recruit until 27 March, but only players who have featured in state championships.

Veríssimo, 30, won the 2016 Paulistão and was a 2020 Conmebol Libertadores runner-up with Santos.
